Description
Ouzo 12 is the world’s best-selling Greek anise spirit. First produced in 1880 in Constantinople (Istanbul) by the Kaloyannis brothers, the name originates from “Barrel Number 12,” which was selected as the finest house blend. It features an ABV of 38% to 40% and is flavored with botanicals like aniseed, fennel, cardamom, and cinnamon.
Ouzo 12 is traditionally enjoyed as an aperitif alongside Mediterranean meze, such as olives, feta, tzatziki, and seafood
It is typically served:
With Ice and Water: Adding water or ice melts essential oils from the herbs, turning the clear liquid into a milky-white color (a chemical reaction known as the ouzo effect).
Chilled: Many prefer keeping the bottle in the freezer and drinking it neat to appreciate its crisp, licorice-like finish.
In Cocktails: It adds a botanical, anise twist to espresso martinis or other mixed drinks.
