Open, pour, enjoy – that’s the whole point of a ready-to-drink (RTD). In short: RTDs are pre-mixed alcoholic drinks in cans or small bottles, and their strength varies enormously: about 4–4.7% for Smirnoff Ice and Le Coq, 10–14% for Buzz, Kixxy and XXL, and up to 30% for Fox and Zig Zag. Always check the label – a sweet taste can hide a lot of alcohol.
Why RTDs are booming
According to IWSR, global RTD volumes grew by around 1.3% in 2025 while beer, spirits and wine declined, making RTDs the only major alcohol category expected to grow in 2026. IWSR also expects RTDs to reach 4% of total beverage alcohol volumes in ten key markets by 2029, up from 2% in 2019.
